Wilkin and Sons New Tea Shops

13 Feb

Wilkin and Son are expanding their tea shop offerings. I learnt around a month ago that they had taken over from my friend Jonathan at the Writtle Tea Rooms and I now read they have acquired a lease on a building right next to another Tea shop I have reviewed – the Art Cafe in Colchester.

You can read more about this here – http://www.colchesterchronicle.co.uk/2012/02/11/tymperleys-20-year-lease-for-tiptree/

Another closure

18 Dec

Sad to report that ‘my local’ Tiffanys in Great Baddow has closed shutting up shop after 4 years in the Village. It has been replaced though with an establishment called ‘The Glasshouse’ which I will be checking out over the Christmas period.

Sorry to see them go…

Another tea shop closure

10 Jun

Very sad to report the closure of another tea shop mentioned on the site and at topteashops.co.uk.

The Tea Rooms in Walton-on-the-naze has closed. There are a couple of other places to enjoy tea and a cake but yet to try them.

Tiffanys and Writtle Tea Rooms battle it out

08 Jul

So the battle of the teashops is on.

The Essex Chronicle Food and Drink Awards have placed both of them in the Top 3 for best Tea Shop. You can find out more at http://www.thisistotalessex.co.uk/efda09publicvoting.html

I know that both Tea Shops know each other and there was even talk of Jon from Writtle Tea Rooms having a quick drink in Tiffanys recently (checking out the competition I reckon).

Best of luck to both of them. 8th October 2009 is the date we all find out.

UPDATE: Unfortunately neither of these Chelmsford Tea Rooms won. It went to a Stop The World in Leigh On Sea – http://www.thisistotalessex.co.uk/efda09winners09.html

Mary B’s, Padstow

24 Apr

On a recent visit to Padstow in April 2009 I was disheartened to see Mary B’s Teashop had gone.

It was a lovely tea shop hidden away from the madding crowds which descend on the small fishing port in Spring/Summer.

It’s loss has made Padstow a poorer place – M
