A new cafe has opened in my home town of Chelmsford, Essex. Based in Moulsham Street opposite Rayleigh Hifi and only a few doors down from another cafe it is a busy area.
They have decorated it nicely and is a little twee but fun. You can enter and walk past the take out counter and head towards to back if you wish to sit down and eat in. Head up to the counter order, pay and sit down is the routine.
They are serving cold foods only but promise hot food is on the way. There were 10 varieties of sandwiches/baguettes and 9 varieties of cakes plus some daily specials. There are also ploughmans, salads and ‘little cherries’ meals for younger children. If you have a desire for dessert then there are a few to choose from.
Drinkwise there is a wide selection of hot and cold drinks including beetroot juice which I didn’t go for. I enjoyed a Coronation Chicken baguette and Lemon Drizzle cake. Service was a little slow but the food was delicious and worth waiting for plus it is early days. I wish them luck.

A much needed lovely little cafe. Disappointing for us Gluten Free customers. I have put together a suggestion for some delicious g.f. biscuits which could be available and will e-mail to them. Coffee lovely but nothing really to eat on the gluten free side. If you would like some ideas or to discuss how you can accomodate us that would be lovely!

Went there this afternoon with friends. The service was very slow but it was not a problem as we were not rushing. However, it was disappointing because the teapots were dirty and have not been washed. They have obviously been served several times without being washed. The handles were very sticky and had cake crumbs on them. The lids were also grubby. Surprising as it’s still a new establishment and looks nice from the outside. I will certainly not go again.

went there recently but never again.
crokery diry and observed washed in sink
cake very dry
lots of young kids(servers) running around not knowing what they are doing + one young lad constantly flicking his hair back.
very poor and expensive at £10 for two small teas+ two cakes
Pret a manager opening soon at least that ids consistent and you get away from dirty cups with a disposable carton.
dissapointing

I dine at this establishment most days and have done for months. I have never had reason to complain (Joy). The food is just amazing. Service is attentive. I am always asked if everything is alright. It is a pleasure to dine or just have tea and cake there. If you go there you will realise you cannot knock it…and the staff…oh! la la!

Cherry on top is one of the most wonderful cafes I have been too, and so close by! Such good value for money, you needn’t worry about being given too small a slice of cake or not having a wide selection – neither is a problem. Once you have decided (and with such choice it can be difficult) you’re given a huge slice, so definitely worth not eating too much before you leave.
Also great for those without a sweet tooth. They have a wide selection of wonderful panninis, sandwiches and

Also great for those without a sweet tooth. They have a wide selection of wonderful panninis, sandwiches and other lunch time food, and worth trying their chips with homemade garlic mayonnaise.
All round great food, great atmosphere and great service. A great treat for all.

We visited yesterday, and unfortunately were midway through our cake and tea when the alarm went off. Nothing wrong with that… it showed that it was at least working efficiently. But no hint of compensation when it was discovered that no member of staff could turn it off. And it went on and on, never ending. The overpowering and long lasting bombardment of our ears led to our earlier than expected departure. A very good cake and tea experience somewhat spoilt by poor customer relations.

Been here twice. Both times service was very slow.
Tea pots were dirty and I’ve had a burnt tea cake and a soggy croissant here.
I also got the cold shoulder from staff because I had entered through the ‘wrong’ door – they could not even bring themselves to say ‘good morning’ or ‘goodbye’.
Shame – it looks nice but underneath it’s just another grubby tea shop.

Very pleasant and “Cath Kidstonesque” decor. The coffee is really nice – I recommend the Mocha. I have been there twice and would go back again.
Constructive criticism: It is true the service is a bit slow. Also the servers should be trained a little in etiquette so that they can take better care of their customers.
