Mauro’s, Writtle, Essex

Rosie contacted the TTS Blog and told us about a new deli/tea shop in the village of Writtle, near Chelmsford in Essex. She says this

Mauros. Writtle
Newly opened Tea Room/Deli. Excellent teas made with leaves in individual pots with charming old fashioned crockery.. Sadly the scones are packet mix. Not too keen on sitting by freezers and shelves with goods for sale. Bit of a mitch match but I expect they have to feel their feet to see what sells. Good luck to them but do serve homemade food.

Thanks for the posting! – M

  1. Visited Mauro,s for the first time recently. Had a fabulous cheese board for two at £10. Great food, excellent service, in pleasant surroundings. It has a deli feel as opposed to a traditional tearoom. Excellent value, will definitely be going back.

  2. Same as above really. Today we ordered Panninis, they arrived after a long wait, burnt and not correct filling, asked waitress why onion wasn’t in it? She replied we have run out, not asked if I minded just bought it without! Not happy and won’t return!

  3. Visited on a Sunday – ok for cakes and Panninis/sandwiches. Asked if they did beans on toast or egg on toast. They didn’t. It was ok – just not my type of food

  4. Visited Mauro’s with my parents on Tuesday June 10th. I was in town from Toronto where I now live. We shared a Meat and Cheese Platter for three. The food quality was excellent, the presentation made it even better and the attention to details – the pesto sauce and ‘some of the best olives I have had in years’ ( Dad); made for a memorable lunch. Will be visiting on my next trip. If you are local, check out Mauro’s – so good to experience fresh, well presented food at a great price by friendly staff. Felicity (Toronto)
